Luz de Tavira
This gorgeous village is located close to Tavira and is famous for its traditional houses and architecture. The houses have the traditional ‘platibands’ borders, which are painted with geometric and floral motifs and run around the doors, windows and walls of the houses. The houses are also influenced by the Art Nouveau period, which is evident through the ornate chimneys on each house. The main church is also a popular tourist attraction – built in the 16th century its ornate architecture has survived almost unharmed.

Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo
Located in a rural area of the Algarve nestled amongst groves of orange and almond trees is the town known as Barrocal. The church within Barrocal was built in the 16th century in the renaissance style. It is a very ornate church, with much decoration to both the interior and the exterior, and is definitely worth visiting a sit reflects Portugal’s culture of the 16th century.

Conceição de Tavira
This town holds many of its traditional charms, and has barely been touched by the tourism industry. Its local residents are mainly farmers and fishermen, whose houses are within small cobbled streets. In the centre of the town is the church, built in a gothic style. This style is evident however, it has been altered since it was built and these time periods can also be seen through the architectures.
