This is one of the largest resorts on Turkey, and provides the
most European feel on the whole island. It also has a cosmopolitan
atmosphere, especially throughout the summer months. Marmaris
is the beginning of the stunning Turquoise coast, which
runs along the Mediterranean Sea. The resort has been built around
a natural bay, and is nestled at the foot of stunning forested
mountains. Maramaris is also well-known for its
sailing, as there is the best to be had at the resort. There is
a modern marina, which houses private yachts, as well as cruise
boats, which are available for holidaymakers to enjoy.
There are many other water sports to be enjoyed within the resort,
as well as many other facilities outside of the area, such as
the Kaunos tombs and other beautiful villages. Marmaris also boasts
many shops, restaurants and bars in which you can enjoy a relaxing

Castle
Some historians believe that there has been a castle in Marmaris
since 3,000 B.C. The castle that now stands on the site has been
made into a museum that is well worth visiting. There are seven
galleries, and an exhibition hall as well as the courtyard. This
is the perfect day away from the beach, and offers many activities
for both the adults and children, providing a taste of the local
culture.
Kaunos
Dalyan is located between the Köycegiz lagoon and the sea,
and runs boat trips to the monumental tombs of Kaunos, which are
set into the rock. Carved out of the rock in around the 4th century,
these tombs are stunning, as well as providing information of
the rich heritage of the region.
Mugla
This beautiful town is often missed by holidaymakers, and so provides
a quiet atmosphere in which to enjoy the local culture. There
are many traditional white houses, with their overhanging roofs
that are amongst some of the most attractive in Turkey. The town
is overlooked by the medieval castle, as well as another ancient
town, Mobolla. For the most picturesque views of this village,
take the winding track east out of the village, as enjoy the pleasant
stroll up the hill.
