Dalaman is well-known for its natural beauty,
which can be seen throughout the town as well as with the mountainous
landscape surrounding it. As well as this stunning backdrop, the
other side of the town is the beach, which has golden sandy beaches.
There are many local attractions to be seen, both historical and
geographical – from the natural mud baths and the ancient tombs.
The town has grown in popularity recently, and has been boosted
by major developments in the airport, the road as well as the
building of many hotels and holiday facilities. However, over-development
of the area is prevented by the endangered loggerhead turtles
that frequent the area. This means that as it develops Dalaman
stays within keeping of the natural landscape and environment.
The town of Dalaman has many shops, restaurants
and bars, as well as cafes in which you can spend the afternoon,
which are all fairly modern due to the development of the area.
The beach is natural, and has not yet become over commercialized,
providing the perfect place to relax. Dalaman
is the perfect place to be based to explore the local area, as
it provides a quiet location. Larger towns such as Gocek, are
within easy driving distance, and other attractions are also close
at hand. You must visit the Dalyan river, where you can catch
a boast trip. It will take you past the Kaunos archaeologist site
is where there are many tombs carved out of the limestone mountains,
as well as stopping at the Iztuzu beach where the sea turtles
have their own refuge.
There are many hotels in the area from small and simple hotels
to the grand prestige hotel, Maramais. Dalaman
hotels vary in price, making them affordable for everyone. Flights
are also becoming cheaper, meaning that there has never been a
better time to visit Dalaman.
Lakes
Surrounding the village of Kapikargin in the Dalaman area, is
known as the region of lakes. One of the lakes, Kocagol is the
largest and deepest of the lakes and was formed by the sea. The
other three lakes are connected by canals, and make for the perfect
day out. As well as the lakes, there are large amounts of plants,
as well as a small, pretty island.
Beaches
One of the most popular beaches in the region is the Sarsala,
which is just 8km from Dalaman. There are also many small inlets
and beaches, which remain untouched which are worth exploring.
Dalyan, which is 35km from Dalaman boasts the Iztuzu ebach, which
is famous for its loggerhead turtles who come here to lay their
eggs.
Kapidag
The Kapidag peninsula is set northwest of Bandirm, and is linked
to the mainland by a small piece of water. It is mainly made up
of granite, and has a partly forested area which climbs up the
mountains, which go up to 2,566ft in height. One legend says that
when it was a separate island, known as Arctonnesos, it was inhabited
by the God Zeus’ wetnurses, which transformed into bears.
