Bodrum is one of the most popular destination
inTurkey, and it is clear to see why. Homer,
the famous philosopher, described it has ‘the land of eternal
blue’, and this is still true, with its stunning seas and golden
beaches. The mountains, that back this beautiful resort, are filled
with lush trees and stunning white villas. The resort itself has
narrow cobbled streets, which lead down to the crystal sea and
the picturesque harbours. The harbours house many local boats,
as well as companies offering tours to nearby islands. Along the
stunning coastline of Bodrum there are many bars
and restaurants in which to relax, or if you are wanting a more
lively evening there are also clubs in which you can dance the
night away.
There is also a 15th century castle, positioned between the two
harbours. It is now home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology
– the perfect place to learn about the history of the area. There
are many other attractions that are able to tell holidaymakers
about the resorts history, including the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus,
one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Although it is one of Turkey’s most popular destinations,
this beautiful resort has managed to keep its traditional charm.
There are daily bazaars and a multitude of buildings and attractions
displaying the history of the town. However, this is coupled with
the tourist facilities such as water sports, bars, sunbathing
and nightclubs.
There are many cheap flights to Bodrum, as well
as a variety of accommodation. From luxury accommodation to self-catering
apartment, there is something to suit every budget, making
Bodrum holidays affordable for everyone.
Pamukkale
These springs, rich in minerals, have surged over the mountains
for thousands of years. The result of this has been a natural
wonder of the rock formations. Known as Cotton Castle, these rock
formations are natural shelves and ridges that have been turned
white from the mineral in the water. Because of its natural waters,
this was the site of a Roman Spa city, and there are many Roman
ruins throughout the local area. There is a bus from Bodrum, which
takes around 5 hours, but it is well worth the wait!.
The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World this mausoleum was
built around 353 B.C. It was built by Artemisia II for her husband
and Mausolus, her brother. It has now been made into an open air
museum, providing visitors with a look at the history and culture
of the area.
Bodrum Market
Held every Friday this traditional market is a must for all holidaymakers
to Bodrum. It includes local farmers produce, and on a Tuesday
is home to handcrafts, clothes and fabrics. Located at the main
bus station in Bodrum, there is always a bargain to be had.
