Located on the most southerly point of the Costa Brava,
this beautiful resort attracts both international visitors as
well as Spanish holidaymakers. Once a quiet fishing village, this
resort became popular within the past 50years. The 2miles of sandy
beaches as well as coves and bays may be why people like to take
holidays in Blanes every year. Behind the sea
front, which is lined with shops and cafes, lies the town itself.
It still contains some of its original features such as the medieval
castle of St Joan, as well as many churches and old buildings.
The town also houses two botanical gardens, which are definitely
worth visiting. They have numerous plant species as well as plants
which live in hotter climates that are not available in England!
There are the normal tourist facilities in Blanes, but they also
take pleasure in offering a taste of the Spanish culture to people
on Blanes holidays. They provide many Spanish
fiestas, street markets and dancing.
Botanical Gardens
There are 2 botanical gardens in Blanes, together boasting more
than 11,000 species of plant. There are many important collections,
which we are unable to grow in England, such as aloe plants and
cacti. They were originally developed from the surrounding habitat,
and now have 300,000 visitors a year.
Beaches
Blanca has 4km of beaches, which combines golden sands and bays
with more rocky coves. They are perfect for relaxing on, and many
people like the clear waters for water sports. Although the beach
is one of the most popular places to spend holidays, Blanes beaches
never seem to be over-crowded.
