Sahara Desert Camel Ride
Explore an unchanged part of the world by taking a guided tour
across the dunes by camel.
Ideally you should experience the Sahara at night. This is when then air cools down and in the clear sky, the stars seem so close you can touch them. It's hard to imagine the peacefulness of the total silence.
Matmata
Star Wars fans should recognise Matmata. The town, south of Tunis, was used in The Phantom Menace film as the home of Anakin Skywalker.
Matmata is made up of strange dwellings built into a crater in the land and is a popular place to visit. Excursions to Matmata can be arranged from all main resorts.
Souks of Sousse
Sousse was built in the 9th Century and has retained a great deal of its original character. It is Tunisia's third largest city.
Sousse is dominated on one side by the Great Mosque and the elegant Ribat, Sousse's other great Islamic monument.
The Kasbah, which houses the many souks is the place to haggle for a bargain. Haggling is compulsory.
Carthage and El Djem
Visit the well-preserved Roman Amphitheatre in the small town of El Djem, only 60 kilometres south of Sousse - the amphitheatre is one of the largest in the world.
Carthage (near the modern city of Tunis) was one of the most important cities of the ancient world and is now a popular tourist site.Tour the ruins and museums to learn all about the dramatic and often bloody history of the area.
Diving
Tunisia is a popular scuba diving destination.
Tabarka, the country's most north-westerly town on Tunisia’s Coral Coast, offers some of the most exciting dive sites in the Mediterranean.
There is also a World War II wreck to discover off the coast of Hammamet, hidden caves in Djerba, as well as beautiful fish near Port El Kantaoui and more...
